Day 7, Tuesday June 1

Today was our first day away from the apprenticeship center and at Krishna’s house where we will spend the rest of the time during our project. On Friday, we disassembled the table and brought it to Krishna’s house using Jacob’s van and today we wanted to assemble it, position it in Krishna’s yard, and then brainstorm what we should build next. When we took it apart we left the batons and supports together as well as both sides, but all of the boards on the top and seats had to come off. I had assumed that this part would have been very simple but as it turns out its incredibly difficult to make everything line up just as it was before so we had to get creative at times. To start we just put the seats on which worked out without much controversy, putting the support beams in was fairly difficult but manageable, but it got very hard with the top of the table. I presume this happened because all of the other screw holes had been ever so slightly off and those combined to make each progressive step harder than the last. I ended up having to screw some in at an angle due to the unevenness and then straighten out later. I actually took the screw, drilled it in reverse to make a small angled hole, and then drilled it in and it entered at an angle but then found the hole and remained straight hence holding everything in place without going through the wood entirely but still looking straight. However, this did teach us an important lesson about trying to avoid reassembly. For this reason, we decided to build a bench swing with the bench made at Krishna’s and the stand made at Adithya’s, where it will stay. A bench can be moved but the stand is too big so this helps to reduce inconsistencies that occur during the reassembly process. We have the plans and will begin our second product tomorrow by buying materials.

Bottom: The final table in its final spot (if you look closely you should be able to tell we wrote "Hawken Class of 2021" on the middle board on the tabletop but it is hard to see in this photo).
